Helping the Homeless

A Ton of Tins

Students from Dauntsey’s School, near Devizes have donated over 3,000 tins of beans and tomatos to help feed the homeless. The Harvest Festival challenge was taken up enthusiastically right across the school, with stiff competition between houses. The total was 50% more than last year.

Trustee of the Broadgreen Breakfast Club and Filling Station, Angus Macpherson (66/71), said “We are delighted with this support, which will enable us to provide cook breakfasts for the next year and well as some emergency food packages on the streets. We regularly serve 30 breakfasts a day, and know that there a more people sleeping rough Swindon this year than last”

Coinciding with this, is match funding donations to the Broadgreen Breakfast Club. Donations up to £10 will be doubled, which with Gift Aid make the donation worth £22.50. will also match month donations of up to £10 for the first three, to encourage regular giving.

Angus said “Running the Breakfast Club cost around £25,000 per annum, and we want to encourage people to give a small amount on a regular basis so we can concentrate of providing the service and not on fundraising. We also run a “Sponsor a Breakfast” scheme. A day costs £60, (or £50 with Gift Aid) and for companies, groups or perhaps a departmental challenge, sponsoring a week will cost £360.”
