Dauntsey's Bulletin no. 58
Friday 24 March 2017
Head Master's Notices
Following the wonderful success of Billy Elliot in London on Sunday evening, it has been a busy last week of term here at Dauntsey’s, and last night's tremendous Spring Concert was a fitting finale to the term.
As the holidays begin our pupils are heading off in all directions with the Art and Art History trip to Venice, and the RS trip to Rome already on their way. Tomorrow sees the departure of our Lower School Ski Trip to Courmayeur, and our Upper School French Language Trip to Toulouse departs on Sunday.
During the holiday break, on Friday 14 April, our DW team will begin paddling from Devizes to Westminster. The race starts at Devizes Wharf from 8am and finishes at Westminster Bridge very early on Easter Monday. Any support along the way would be welcome and greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone involved.
I wish you all a restful, and enjoyable Easter holiday and thank you for your support this term.
Whole School Notices and Reminders
Exam Office Update
Gemma Ackerman is the new Examinations Officer taking over from Liz Dawe who has retired. Please do get in touch with the Exam Office with any queries or questions you may have over the Exam Season.
All students who are taking External Exams this Summer have been emailed a copy of their timetable. Paper copies have also been provided via the house staff. Where students have clashes they will have been emailed individually about clash arrangements unless it is GCSE Language or GCSE RS, where they will be sitting one exam straight after the other.
Upper School RS Trip to Rome
Friday 24 March - Monday 27 March
This morning, 16 members of the Upper School, accompanied by Mr Holland and Miss Conidaris, have travelled to Rome to spend three days exploring some of the holiest sites in Christendom. These include the Vatican and five of the seven pilgrim churches. There will also be time to visit the Pantheon and the Piazza Navona before returning on Monday 27 March.
The school is always
very keen to hear from parents who may be able to offer work
experience/shadowing opportunities or who are aware of work experience programs
in the organisation they work for. The pupils gain a huge amount from the
process and, in our experience, those involved on the employer side also find
the process most worthwhile.
Placement duration tends to be between two and five days and arranging them is far simpler than many anticipate. If you would like to know more then do please contact either James O’Hanlon firstname.lastname@example.org or Carrie Watson email@example.com in the Careers Department

However, pre booking for some is advised especially if you wish to access some of the lectures on offer. Individual University websites are the best source of information but a useful central list can be found at https://www.opendays.com/

Lower School Notices and Reminders
Last Friday, the Manor boys and girls played ‘Hurst Hunt’ for the first time in 2017, dodging prefects and staff in the dark, whilst trying to get back to their ‘treasure’. Despite the wind and drizzle, it was a fun and frenzied evening outside!
Packing has gone very smoothly this week, and although a few dorms needed some light cajoling, the speed and stress levels were definitely much improved from last term.
As the Easter holidays beckon, I hope all of my boys and girls enjoy some rest and relaxation, some fun, read plenty, and return in a few weeks ready for an action-packed summer with exams, trips and lots of exciting activities to look forward to.
