Head Master's Notices
Next week the Third Form are heading off to Wales early on Monday morning for their Moonrakers Camp, and I look forward to going as well and catching up with them later in the week. Our Second Form will be enjoying a co-curricular day on Tuesday, and I wish our Fourth Formers the best of luck for their examinations which take place throughout next week.
Tomorrow sees the start of post-Dauntsey’s planning for the Lower Sixth, who will be joined by their parents for a series of presentations from Higher Education representatives and James O’Hanlon (Head of Careers). Further presentations and support sessions have been arranged for Thursday and Friday next week.
We have fixtures tomorrow against Bradfield College, West Hill Park, Cranmore and Monkton Combe, and I also wish our Athletes luck at the County Championships.
Tomorrow evening, we are hosting our 1920’s themed Romania Trip Charity Auction, and on Sunday afternoon The Manor House is having their Charity Fête. Please do come along and support these events and have a great time too!

Vaughan's Kitchen are currently recruiting for their Summer Intensive Course, which will run from 21 August to 8 September. This course is suitable for our Upper Sixth leavers, and will provide a qualification for gap year jobs such as working in a ski chalet, holiday villa or yacht crew etc. It also would gain you the knowledge and skills for further employment in the catering industry.
After Christmas Vaughan's will run another less intensive course on Mondays for 12 weeks.
Please see the attached leaflet for further information.
FREE CyberFirst Courses for students aged 14 - 17yrs
The National Cyber Security Centre (part of GCHQ), the Smallpeice Trust and QA are jointly running a series of Free CyberFirst courses throughout the Summer Holidays.
The courses represent a great opportunity to build on your existing cyber skills and interests. The courses are free with the aim of encouraging participation from as wide a section of society as possible. Running throughout the courses is a strong emphasis on the ethics and legalities of ‘messing around’ with computers and the internet.
Please follow the link for more information.
The school is always very keen to hear from parents who may be able to offer work experience/shadowing opportunities or who are aware of work experience programs in the organisation they work for. The pupils gain a huge amount from the process and, in our experience, those involved on the employer side also find the process most worthwhile.
Placement duration tends to be between two and five days and arranging them is far simpler than many anticipate. If you would like to know more then do please contact either James O’Hanlon firstname.lastname@example.org or Carrie Watson email@example.com in the Careers Department
Engineering Work Experience
Now in its third year; Dauntsey’s pupils will have the opportunity to undertake a week of work experience at MOD Lyneham. Primarily aimed at potential engineers (16 years old and above), the week will give an overview of helicopter, wheeled and armoured vehicle maintenance training. It will encompass classroom, hangar and outdoor activities. The week should provide a valuable insight to working life outside the school environment. Limited to 10 places.
Please contact Mr James O’Hanlon, Dauntsey’s career advisor.
For Parents of Lower Sixth pupils
Higher Education & Post Dauntsey’s Planning Conference

University Open Days.
Many institutions hold Open Days in the summer term and for many of these it is perfectly acceptable to simply turn up on the day. However, pre booking for some is advised especially if you wish to access some of the lectures on offer. Individual University websites are the best source of information but a useful central list can be found at https://www.opendays.com/

Lower School Notices and Reminders
After a half term full of sunshine (where has it gone now?!), the Manor boys and girls have had a mixed week – the Third Formers have been knuckling down amidst their end of year exams, whilst the younger members of the House have understandably seemed more liberated and relaxed after the exams they sat before half term.
Mr Gordon organised a last minute ‘hustings’ on Wednesday night, in preparation for the forthcoming election. Third Form pupils presented on behalf of a respective party, and all of the House showed maturity, interest and enthusiasm in a lively debate/discussion before settling down for prep! Arguments and differences of opinion continue unabated…
Looking ahead, we have The Manor Charity Fete this coming Sunday, which will run from 12:00 - 16:00. Families and friends are all welcome to come along and support, and it should turn out to be another great day at The Manor, full of games, activities and challenges, and all for a good cause – bring your wallets/purses along and enjoy the occasion!
Next week the Third Form are away on their Moonrakers trip, before the First and Second Form head off to Rockley next weekend for their annual trip – lots to look forward to…

Sunday June 11
12:00 - 16:00 at Manor House
This year’s Manor House Charity Fete, in aid of Wiltshire Air Ambulance, is happening on Sunday 11 June and preparations are well under way. With last year’s fete raising over £1000, we want this year to be even bigger and better...so we need your help! We are looking for a few things to aid the smooth running of our event:
- Pop up gazebos or small marquees
- Hay bales (roughly 8 to create a seating area for our performance stage)
- Cakes to be sold
- Jam jars filled with sweets or toys for our Jam Jar Tombola
- Bunting to decorate our gorgeous surroundings
- Old bed sheets to be made in to sacks for the sack race (adult, pupil, children and staff races throughout the day!)
We are also collecting raffle prizes – big or small. So far we have a ‘One night stay at The Peppermill Devizes B&B’; an hour of Clay Pigeon Shooting at Barbury Shooting School; a riding lesson at Pewsey Vale Riding School...and much more. Any donations, big or small, would be gratefully received.
If you have any of the
above, or have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Anais Seager
Please feel free to join us for what should be another great day and all for a good cause - it is suitable for all ages! We look forward to welcoming you to The Manor on Sunday 11 June from 12:00 until 16:00.
