Head Master's Notices

The Summer Festival has created a wonderful atmosphere in the last week of the term. Many thanks to staff members, pupils and the DSPA for making it such a memorable week.

As the holidays begin, I wish the best of luck to our crews on the Jolie Brise this Summer. The first crew head out to Canada this weekend to sail The Gulf of St Laurence into Quebec for the fantastic Tall Ships Festival. At the end of the month the final crew will be racing back across the Atlantic from Halifax, spending over thirty days at sea.

The holidays see a number of trips take place. In addition to the annual Lower Sixth trip to Nightingales’ Orphanage in Romania, there is a scuba diving trip to Malta, a senior girls’ hockey tour to Malaysia and a senior boys’ rugby tour to Australia. I hope that each one of these special trips will provide life long memories.

A Level results come out on Thursday 17 August and GCSE results will be published on Thursday 24 August; fingers crossed for all involved.

I hope to see many of you at Speech Day and Prize Giving tomorrow, and I wish everyone an enjoyable Summer Ball tomorrow evening.

To all Dauntsey’s families, I hope you have a wonderful summer holiday and thank you for your support this year.

Art in Motion: the Car, Knowledge and Design
Save the Date and Join the Competition!
Saturday 16th September 13:00 - 15:00: The Gallery at Dauntsey’s

This exhibition will include a display of classic cars, vehicle designs from the Royal College of Art, sculpture by Angela Palmer and photography by Iain Kemp.

If you have a car that you think might be of interest, that you are willing to exhibit on that day, please contact Victoria Rose - Director of Art v.rose@dauntseys.org

This event is in collaboration with Messums Gallery and Classic Car Safe.
Exhibition open: 16 September - 7 October 2017. The classic cars will only be on display on Saturday 16 September.

To support the event, we are running an Art Car competition open to all pupils at Dauntsey’s School. Since 1975 BMW has commissioned 17 Art Cars. These cars, created by a host of renowned artists such as Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, David Hockney and Jeff Koons, transformed cars into canvas, putting Art in Motion. Using the M6GT3 template students will be asked to create their own BMW Art Car. Submissions must be delivered to the Art School by 16:00 Wednesday 5 July 2017. Entries will be judged by Johnny Messum from Messums Gallery and Professor Dale Harrow, Head of Vehicle Design at the Royal College of Art. Ten finalists will be selected and asked to transpose their 2D designs onto a 3D model. One finalist will then be chosen and their car design will be exhibited at Messums Gallery Wiltshire.

The competition brief will be published to students on Monday 19 June 2017.

A huge thank you to all 100 Mentors who came along to the recent Speed Networking event. The feedback from the Lower Sixth has been extremely positive and it has certainly given them a great deal of 'food for thought' as they begin to make plans for the future. The Careers Department thanks all parents who have contributed to the success of the mentor network over the last twelve months and looks forward to working with them next year.

Manor Matters

At the end of an action-packed and exhausting final week of term, The Manor boys and girls have had a great time once again.

The waterslide has been out on numerous occasions.
We had The Manor Dash on Monday (won by Toby Perry, with notable performances by Curtis Wilde, Violet Hopper, Harry Philpott, Georgina Moverley and Iint Ekwongviriya + the first full tutor group back: 1st Form Boys!).
The Manor Football tournament took place on Tuesday, with Henry Barker's team stealing the trophy (Rose McGraw in the winning team for the second year running!)
There have been several packing sessions- not so much fun.
And finally, The Manor Surprise Trip/Party taking place today!

Prizes galore still to be given out tonight. Fun and games before bed, emotional farewells, family picnics tomorrow - just a normal day/night/week for our lot!

It has been a fun year, full of so many happy memories and activities. I wish all of my Manor boys and girls the very best of luck for the future, and both Jo and I will never forget our wonderfully happy few years here.

Until we meet again...

Many thanks, Andrew Brown.
