Head Master's Notices

The Autumn Concert on Thursday evening featured all the School’s major ensembles and some stunning individual performances. I hope that those who were there enjoyed the evening.

‘Noughts and Crosses’, which is a stage adaptation of Malorie Blackman's best-selling novel, is a modern-day tale of star-crossed lovers, race and violence. It will be performed from Tuesday to Thursday in Annabel’s, and I would like to wish the cast and crew the best of luck.

On the sports front, we take on Kingswood and Bryanston tomorrow – the only way is up, after last weekend.

I wish you all an enjoyable and restful weekend.

Mercers' Lectures - Spring Term 2017
Nigel Owens
6 February 2018
19:30 in the Memorial Hall

Nigel Owens MBE is recognised as one of the world’s best rugby referees. Born and bred in Mynyddcerrig, he first picked up the referee whistle aged 16. Nigel officiated his first international game in 2005 between Ireland and Japan in Osaka and made his World Cup debut in 2007 refereeing the Argentina versus Georgia game in Lyon. He is the first openly gay man to referee at the highest level.

Currently booking is suspended due to the high numbers already reserved for this lecture. We will reopen booking spaces to parents and pupils only in January, before reopening to the public. An announcement will be made at the beginning of the Spring Term. Many thanks.

Swimming News

Dauntsey’s School now has a Swim England Affiliated Swimming Club.

We have now set up a swimming club at Dauntsey’s which is affiliated to Swim England, the governing body for swimming in the UK (formally the ASA). This means that swimmers who are members of “Dauntsey’s Swimming Club” are able to enter swimming competitions other than our normal school fixtures. This could also then lead to qualification for County and Regional events etc.

There is a membership fee per swimmer, which would need to be covered by each individual, however for swimmers at Dauntsey’s who are members of another swimming club already this fee would not apply.

If you are interested in your son or daughter becoming a member of Dauntsey’s Swimming Club, or you would like further information, please contact Rebecca Squire at r.squire@dauntseys.org
Many thanks.

1 to 1 Swimming Lessons

We are pleased to say that  1-2-1 Saturday swimming lessons at Dauntsey's have now been approved and can start in the Spring Term. (January 13th 2018). This will be suitable for younger children, such as siblings of Dauntsey's pupils. Lessons adhere to the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework, and are suitable to children from stages 1 - 7.

To avoid disappointment, I would recommend booking early as there is a high demand for places.
Lessons will commence in term time only; the block bookings will carry over to the following term.

30 minutes 1-2-1 Lessons = £18.00
Spring Term: 7 lessons
Summer Term: 8 lessons

Manor Matters

Christmas is in the air at The Manor and plans are very much under way to decorate everything in the House – Christmas songs can be heard everywhere and we are well and truly feeling the festive spirit already!

Last weekend was a busy one and finished off with our trip to see Paddington 2. All agreed that it was a great film and some of our hardier third formers even shed a silent tear at points!

The Headmaster dropped into the House this week and challenged Monty to a quick game of table tennis, and there is much anticipation surrounding the draw for our table tennis competition! In addition, eight third formers enjoyed a ‘home-cooked supper’ with Mrs Sampson, Mr Fulling and Mr Gordon and there was much discussion around the merits (or not) of siblings!

This weekend we are looking forward to a trip to Splashdown in Poole and a stop-off in Salisbury for some shopping on our way home.
Anne Sampson, House Mistress.
