Dauntsey's Bulletin no. 81
Friday 1 December 2017
Head Master's Notices
We are all eagerly anticipating next week’s production of Les Misérables. The seating has arrived, the set is looking impressive and the cast and crew are very busy with their final rehearsals. I hope that everyone involved in the production enjoys the experience and has a fantastic week.
I also hope that we enjoy success on the sports fields this weekend, with the girls playing King Edward VI, Southampton whilst the boys are up against Bryanston.
The Christmas trees have arrived, the decorations are up, and it is beginning to feel very festive at Dauntsey’s. It is certainly cold enough to be Christmas
Whole School Notices and Reminders
Wessex Water have notified the School of this traffic notice
Easterton - Monday 4 December to Friday 7 December
Easterton High Street will be closed to traffic during the above period to allow for essential drainage works to be undertaken. The road is expected to re- open on Thursday 7 and Friday 8 December when a four- way traffic light system will be in operation. As a result of this planned road closure the following buses will be re-routed via Devizes for the period 4 - 6 December: Hungerford, Andover, Pewsey and Etchilhampton routes. In the case of the Etchilhampton service this route will be reversed and the revised timings are as follows:
|Urchfont, Stonepit corner
|Stanton St Bernard
|Horton (2nd bus shelter)
It is anticipated that in addition to the above mentioned
routes that all existing bus services travelling through Devizes will be
severely disrupted owing to the increase in the volume of traffic. Therefore,
it is also likely that the Marlborough, Royal Wooton Bassestt,, Swindon and
Cherhill bus timings will also be affected during the period of the road works.

Lower Sixth DT: Product Design
‘Made here’ Pop-Up Shop
Saturday, 2 December, 13:00 - 17:00 in the Pavilion
For the past 4 weeks the Lower Sixth DT pupils have been designing products to be sold at a pop-up shop, during match teas in the Pavilion, on Saturday 2 December. Pupils started investigating the design challenge individually, before they formed groups of three to discuss their ideas and select a shortlist to take forward. Every pupil then developed one design each, continually gaining third party feedback to help refine their designs. Last week the designs were presented to peers and teachers and four have been selected for production. The groups are now busy in the workshop (not unlike Santa’s elves!) preparing a batch of their products to sell next Saturday.
All of our products will make excellent stocking fillers or gifts and all profits will be going to the school charity.

If your son or daughter is ill and unable to attend School, please contact Reception (01380 814500) by 8.30am that morning. The details will be taken and the message forwarded to the relevant House.
If you child is unwell with Vomiting or Diarrhoea , they need to stay at home for 48 hours following the last episode, and they should not return to school during this time to avoid infecting others. This is the recommendation from Public Health England as well as the school’s.
Dauntsey’s School now has a Swim England Affiliated Swimming Club.
We have now set up a swimming club at Dauntsey’s which is affiliated to Swim England, the governing body for swimming in the UK (formally the ASA). This means that swimmers who are members of “Dauntsey’s Swimming Club” are able to enter swimming competitions other than our normal school fixtures. This could also then lead to qualification for County and Regional events etc.
There is a membership fee per swimmer, which would need to be covered by each individual, however for swimmers at Dauntsey’s who are members of another swimming club already this fee would not apply.
If you are interested in your son or daughter becoming a
member of Dauntsey’s Swimming Club, or you would like further information,
please contact Rebecca Squire at email@example.com

We are pleased to say that 1-2-1 Saturday swimming lessons at Dauntsey's have now been approved and can start in the Spring Term. (January 13th 2018). This will be suitable for younger children, such as siblings of Dauntsey's pupils. Lessons adhere to the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework, and are suitable to children from stages 1 - 7.
To avoid disappointment, I would recommend booking early as
there is a high demand for places.

30 minutes 1-2-1 Lessons = £18.00
Spring Term: 7 lessons
Summer Term: 8 lessons

Lower School Notices and Reminders
The Manorites have continued to enjoy preparing for Christmas – the tree is up, the stockings are filled and the Secret Santa gifts are wrapped! The table-tennis competition is in full swing, with Mr Fulling taking a surprise victory over Humphrey and every evening seeing much excitement around the new table. In addition, the second week of ballroom dancing club saw a dozen of our pupils waltzing around the Main Hall!
This weekend is a fairly quiet one at The Manor, and Christmas remains the central theme. We will be decorating our tree on Saturday, and making felt stockings and wooden trays during our Christmas Craft Activity Day on Sunday.
Swimmers will be enjoying their
hour of fun on Friday, cakes will continue to be decorated and we have several
‘Friends on Friday’ joining us too.
