Admission in the Sixth Form (16+)
In the November preceding entry we write to the Head Teachers of all registered prospective pupils to ask for both a reference and predicted grades. Normally pupils must be predicted at least three A grades and three B grades at I/GCSE to be considered for a place. We consider the Head Teacher's report and then either offer a firm place for the following September, subject only to the minimum GCSE requirement, or invite the prospective pupil for interview and further discussion of possible A Level subjects.
For those prospective pupils who do not take GCSE/IGCSE papers, we test in two of their intended A Level subjects. Arrangements can be made for overseas pupils to take these examinations at their current school. Each pupil will also be interviewed either during a visit to the School or via Skype. A written test in English Language is required for all prospective pupils who do not have English as their first language.
Places are offered in November, (scholarships are offered in early December, in accordance with HMC guidelines - see Scholarships for further details).
Sixth Form Scholarships and Awards. Assessments and interviews for Scholarhsips and Awards are held each year in early-mid November and the closing date for entry is in mid-October. Applications for Scholarships and Awards for 2012 entry are now closed. Dates for 2013 will be posted here as soon as available.
External applicants are encouraged to attend an Open Day to hear a presentation on Sixth Form study by the Director of Studies and meet current Sixth Form pupils. Alternatively, applicants are welcome to contact the Registrar, Mrs J H Sagers, to organise a visit to the School, including a tour of the School with a current Sixth Form pupil.
