Dauntsey’s believes that sport plays an essential role in the development of character and should be an integral part of daily life at School.

As well as developing physical skills and fitness, participation in sport builds confidence, resilience and mental toughness. It gives pupils a real sense of achievement, extends their leadership skills and teaches them the importance of teamwork and discipline. All of these are vital life skills that are easily transferable into many other aspects of life. However, enjoyment is essential and our aim is to provide ‘sport for all’ whilst pursuing excellence for the most talented individuals.

Sport needs to be challenging for all pupils and we are proud that our most able proceed on to county, regional or national level. Our ‘sport for all’ ethos means that we aim to field as many teams as possible each Saturday and also run internal matches to allow all of our pupils to participate on a Saturday afternoon.

As well as our major sports of rugby, hockey, football, basketball, cricket, athletics and tennis for the boys and hockey, netball, athletics and tennis for the girls, we run a thriving extra-curricular programme. This allows pupils to represent the School in such sports as swimming, rifle shooting, squash and horse riding.

At Dauntsey’s sport is played in beautiful surroundings and in recent years the School has invested significantly in the sports facilities. These include eight rugby/football pitches, two AstroTurf hockey pitches, seven all-weather netball/tennis courts, an athletics track and a seven-hole golf course. Our indoor facilities include a sports hall, a climbing wall, a newly equipped fitness suite, a heated indoor swimming pool, two squash courts and a sports pavilion.

The School has also invested in professional coaches across the range of sports, many of whom have played at the very top level. This strategy has generated much success and produced some great results. The future of Dauntsey’s sport is very bright.

Dauntsey’s offers Sports scholarships at both 13+ and 16+. Please follow this link for more information or contact the Director of Sport.

Sporting character

“ The sporting character of students is clearly evident on match days. Students play hard, play to win and show that they can win and lose graciously. ”
