Head Master's Notices
The huge cast and gifted technical crews have been busy over the last few weeks preparing for In the Heights and the rehearsals promise a real treat. It is certainly a different Christmas show and I hope that you enjoy it next week. The seating has arrived and the set looks magnificent.
Meanwhile, Christmas trees have been popping up around the School and the term is racing to a conclusion. There are matches against King Edward VI, Southampton, Canford and Downside this weekend, while our rifles teams are off to compete at Bisley. There is also a Primary Schools’ hockey tournament on Saturday morning.

Mercers' Lectures - Spring Term 2020
Michael Portillo, journalist, broadcaster, former cabinet minister
Thursday 30 January 2020
Michael Portillo worked for the Conservative Party between 1976 and 1983 and entered the House of Commons in 1984. He was a minister for eleven years and had three positions in the Cabinet, including Secretary of State for Defence.
He lost his seat at the 1997 election and began to develop a career in the media. He returned to the Commons between 2000 and 2005, during which time he was shadow Chancellor, and unsuccessfully contested the leadership of the party in 2001. Since leaving politics, Michael has devoted himself to
writing and broadcasting.

The December musical is always a much-anticipated highlight. From the writer of Hamilton and Disney's Moana, Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical tells the story of a vibrant community in New York's Washington Heights neighbourhood.
Wednesday to Saturday productions are almost sold out. There is some good availability still for the Tuesday night show. Please book online here

King Reynolds Christmas Hamper Raffle
This is a call for assistance from the King Reynolds House charity representative. King Reynolds is currently collecting gifts for a Christmas hamper raffle, so if you have any old presents that have been hanging around after Great Aunt Moira gave them to you last year, don’t leave them in the cupboard under the stairs, re-gift them to us! Donate them to charity by bringing them in to Mrs Ward’s office in King Reynold’s House. Thank you

Lower School Notices and Reminders
Manor Matters
The Manor is looking (and sounding) very Christmassy, as the tree was delivered this week and decorations were hung in the Main Hall and many of the dorms. Christmas Cake decorating is reaching its final stages and some of the design plans would impress the judges of Bake Off!
Mrs Sampson and Miss Major took their tutor groups on a Laserquest and Bowling Evening, and great fun was had by all – Sophie proved to be the best shot with both the laser gun and the bowling ball, and impressed even the staff at the centre by winning both competitions.
Miss Hyman took advantage of the tapas theme at supper on Thursday, and enjoyed speaking Spanish to the Manorites during their meal – the food was delicious, although some of the pupil’s Spanish was apparently rather questionable!
This weekend sees the pupils decorating the Christmas Tree and then baking some Christmas Cookies – we all look forward to sampling the finished products.
