Head Master's Notices

It has been wonderful to see our pupils and staff making the most of the extensive outdoor spaces that we have here at school this past week.  There have been QR code treasure hunts, campfire evenings in the Manor woods, and a full internal sports and activities schedule.  Our ‘floating classroom’, the Jolie Brise hosted our Fourth Formers, as they spent a day on board learning the ropes and gave them a change of scene away from Wiltshire.  The Jolie Brise is now coming out of the water for the winter and her annual maintenance programme

Some pupils may have spied a dinosaur on site during the last few days….do not be alarmed; all will be revealed in our Autumn Concert!

I hope that you all have a happy, safe, and restful exeat weekend.

Covid-19 Information: A Quick Guide for Parents

The attached document provides a useful summary of what parents should do if they or their children exhibit symptoms of COVID-19.  We would be grateful if you could spend two minutes familiarising yourself with the document. Many thanks.

Christmas Cards

The Manor pupils have been busy designing Christmas Cards as part of a House competition. The cards have now been judged by Eleni Conidaris who chose 12 cards to be printed and sold in aid of Virunga National Park and NHS Charities Together. These are available at £5 a pack and will be printed over the next week.

These are now available to order via Firefly here.

If you would like to purchase a pack but are having trouble accessing Firefly, please don’t hesitate to contact me and order them directly via email. I have attached a preview of the winning cards here. We are aware that fundraising opportunities are slim with COVID meaning we can’t hold our usual fundraising events so would love to sell as many as possible for these two very important charities.

Many thanks for your support,
Anais Seager: a.seager2@dauntseys.org

New Library Portal

We are pleased to announce that a new Library Portal is available within Firefly (under Academic) for all students and staff.  Login using SSO to access your own account (Dauntsey’s email address and password)

The functionality offers the following:

  • Search for books and research material held within the library both by subject or title specific.
  • Using the One Search facility access the various databases we subscribe to, useful for independent research especially EPQ.
  • Reserve books online by click and drag so they can be collected the next day.
  • View in Visual Search the numerous exam specific reading lists and topic collections organised by department.
  • Within My Borrowing Details see what books you have on loan, when they are due back and write a review of the book.
  • Read the weekly First News newspaper uploaded every Friday.
  • The homepage has a quick video to give an overview of functionality.

We hope to see more pupils using this new functionality and making the most of the fantastic facilities we have at Dauntsey’s.

Manor Matters

Last weekend saw big numbers in house and a full and popular range of activities put on by Miss Seager and Miss Andrews. The QR code treasure hunt was a particular success and luckily the weather held, ensuring pupils remained dry as they explored the grounds in search of the codes.

The craft room and other evening activities remained popular this week. Pupils are encouraged to make suggestions for new/different activities. Plans are afoot to reclaim the 'staff room' as a screen-free chill out space. Again I would very much welcome pupil help and input to make the most of this initiative.

Next week we are looking forward to the arrival of the famous Manor Christmas tree. And the weekend of the 28th/29th will see an Eco-craft competition and more festive decorating of the house.

I think we are all looking forward to exeat and a chance to unwind and re-charge before the final few weeks until Christmas. May I wish you all a cosy, relaxing and safe weekend.
Peter Guille, House Master.
