Head Master's Notices

Many congratulations to Miss Chambers, and the cast and crew of our first socially distanced drama production, Chatroom.  Performed over two nights this week I was immensely impressed with how our pupils rose to the challenge of producing a play whilst maintaining distancing rules.  This included rehearsals on Microsoft Teams, a wonderful set design by the Lower School Tech Club and a Sixth Former, while the lighting and sound desk was managed by our Senior Tech Crew, aided by Second Form technicians. It was fantastic to see our pupils up on stage once again and they delivered powerful and compelling performances in a hard-hitting play about manipulation, cyberbullying and adolescent insecurity.

Looking ahead to next week, we have a Mufti day on Friday in aid of our school charity – I look forward to seeing everyone in their finest Christmas jumpers!  Also please do see the notice below about transport arrangements home next Thursday and Friday.

Details of tomorrow’s sport programme are below.  I hope that you have a good weekend.

Examination Notices

Fifth Form and Upper Sixth Mock Exams

The mock exams for both these year groups will run from the 12th January until the 22nd January. The subject timetables can be accessed from the links below:
Upper Sixth Timetable
Fifth Form Timetable

They can also be found at the Firefly examinations site here.

Every student will be given their own personal timetable next week, which will tell them exactly where and when their own specific exams take place. One or two pupils have had clashes of exam timings and the details of how these have been resolved will be in their personal timetables.

One key element of the exam planning has been to keep the year groups separate and to ensure the schools coronavirus policies are adhered to. All students will be sent an e-mail before the term ends, detailing what is expected before and after exam sessions, to ensure the successful and safe conduct of all our mock exams.

If you have any queries or concerns about exams please contact me via e-mail or phone or the pupils can come along to the exams office and chat to us either next week or the first week back at school.

Christmas Cards

The Manor pupils have been busy designing Christmas Cards as part of a House competition. The cards have now been judged by Eleni Conidaris who chose 12 cards to be printed and sold in aid of Virunga National Park and NHS Charities Together. These are available at £5 a pack and will be printed over the next week.

These are now available to order via Firefly here.

If you would like to purchase a pack but are having trouble accessing Firefly, please don’t hesitate to contact me and order them directly via email. I have attached a preview of the winning cards here. We are aware that fundraising opportunities are slim with COVID meaning we can’t hold our usual fundraising events so would love to sell as many as possible for these two very important charities.

Many thanks for your support,
Anais Seager: a.seager2@dauntseys.org

Lower School Notices and Reminders

Manor Matters

Christmas preparations have continued at pace this week. Last weekend's tree decorating went well, I've never had to use such a large step ladder to decorate a tree before! Evie's Eco craft activity was a huge success too and many of the environmentally friendly Christmas decorations are now adorning the Manor Tree. The Christmas Film World Cup has reached the quarter final stage, the pick of the matches is surely Nativity vs Elf and there is the interesting prospect of a Home Alone vs Home Alone 2 Final!

I am very grateful for the many excellent applications that we have received for the House Representative positions, the appointments will be published in house this evening.

This weekend Mr Fulling and Miss Andrews have more festive treats in store with baking, Christmas card making, Bingo and another Sunday morning HIIT session.

Plans are well underway for the Manor Christmas party on Wednesday evening, we are hoping to hold an 'as normal' end of term celebration as we can. There will be year group Karaoke, quiz, secret Santa, non-alcoholic mulled wine and Christmas tunes aplenty.

End of term pick up details will follow shortly by email. Just a brief and hopefully welcome reminder that pupils will not be moving rooms after Christmas, so there is no need for them to bring ALL of their belongings back home.
Peter Guille, House Master.

Please do follow us on Twitter @ManorDauntseys to keep up to date.

UK BEBRAS Competition 2020

Each year, all Lower School students participate in a national competition in computational thinking. First Form pupils compete in the Junior category, whilst Second and Third Form pupils are entered into the Intermediate competition.

A huge congratulations goes to the following pupils, all of whom achieved a top 10% score in their age groups nationally. All are invited to participate in the TCS Oxford Computing Challenge in early March 2021. Special mentions go to Louise Bourne and Sam Spooner for attaining the ‘Best in School’ award for the Junior and Intermediate categories respectively.
