Lower School Boarding for Boys and Girls
First Form – Third Form inclusive
The Manor is home to approximately 80 Lower School boarders (aged 11-14). Positioned just a short walk away from the main school campus means pupils are able to enjoy the sense of coming home after school and there is never a shortage of activities waiting for them on their return.
Set in 65 acres of grounds and ancient woodland, which the school has owned since the 1920s, the Manor provides the perfect ‘playground’ for any pupil, with flood-lit tennis courts, fields for football and cricket, and woods for exploring. In addition to this there is a large array of indoor leisure facilities. Activities are laid on for pupils every weekend, as well as a number of larger outings in the year, such as trips to the pantomime and a summer activity weekend away.
A dedicated team of house staff and their families all live on-site, ensuring a safe and structured environment for Dauntsey's youngest boarders, who enjoy living in a caring and friendly home from home atmosphere.
In keeping with the Lower School day houses, The Manor is a co-educational house, with boys and girls studying, socialising and eating together. The boys' and girls' accommodation is on separate floors, with house staff accommodation on each floor.
Film and popcorn night is my favourite! Along with the woods. And the games. And the trips.
Manor Pupil
Housemistress - Emma Jolly
Emma graduated from The University of Wales with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art in 2002 and later a PCGE from Bath Spa University. Emma has led Art departments in both Wiltshire and most recently, the Middle East and is teaching in the Art Department at Dauntsey’s. Alongside teaching in secondary schools, she has worked in a variety of community youth and resident artist roles, both leading and supporting a variety of town and festival art projects.
Emma and her husband, David, live in the Manor with their two daughters, Dora and Greta and two cats, Mackerel and Sammy and Hester the dog.
Alongside Emma, the pupils are looked after by a dedicated team of resident tutors and house staff including Mr Jack Mynott, Assistant Housemaster, who himself is an Old Dauntseian.
The Manor is home to all of our Lower School boarders (First Form - Third Form). The house is set in 65 acres of grounds and ancient woodlands and is just a short walk from the main school.
Flexi-boarding
Dauntsey's has a very flexible approach to boarding whereby boarders are able to go home after Saturday commitments and return on Sunday night or Monday morning, should they wish.
In addition to this, Flexi-boarding is offered in the First Form, for two years, subject to avalibility. Our Flexi-boarding pupils join The Manor and board four nights per week; they all have permanent beds in the house and are very much part of the boarding community.
History of The Manor
The house was originally built in the 1860s for Edward Pleydell-Bouverie, who was MP for Kilmarnock in Scotland for 30 years and held various posts in the Liberal administration of Lord Palmerston. The house motto ‘Patria Cara Carior Libertas’ (your country is dear; but freedom is dearer) is taken from the Pleydell-Bouverie family motto.
