Design and Technology

Dauntsey's has a flourishing Design and Technology Department that has embraced the rapid changes in technology the subject has seen in recent years.

The department is well resourced with the latest computer aided design (CAD) and manufacturing equipment and all pupils from the First Form through to the Sixth Form are taught how to use these technologies alongside more traditional skills. The department comprises three CAD studios and a large multimedia workshop with equipment ranging from welding and brazing facilities to computer-controlled lathes, router, milling machine and laser cutters.

Pupils in the First Form to the Third Form undertake a wide range of projects that are structured to develop their design and practical skills. CAD and computer aided manufacture are used extensively but appropriately throughout most projects.

At GCSE and A Level pupils are encouraged to develop solutions to real problems and produce practical outcomes that are commercially viable. Each year this results in a wide variety of projects covering a diverse range of topics. Many of our pupils choose to further their studies at university in a related course at degree level.

The department is open during lunch breaks and after school for pupils to further their studies or undertake projects of their own.
