Head Master's Notices

Many congratulations to the Fifth Form on finishing their GCSE Examinations. The majority of A levels are also over with just a few papers left next week, and all have done very well indeed to remain relatively calm and focused over a tough few weeks.

Next week, most of the Fifth Form return for post-GCSE Life Skills courses. There is a wide-range of choices on offer, such as the leadership academy, rescue and emergency first aid, cookery, lifesaving and the Jurassic Adventure, which departs on Sunday afternoon.

The Lower Sixth are now taking time to explore their options after Dauntsey’s with many attending University Open Days over the next couple of weeks. This week they have taken part in a ‘Speed Networking’ event and are today involved in a Post-Dauntsey’s Planning Day. I am extremely grateful to all of the mentors who gave up their time on Wednesday evening.

Tomorrow, our cricket teams take on Kingswood, whilst the tennis teams play Bryanston and King Edward's School, Bath.

Tomorrow evening, we are hosting our Bond-themed Romania Trip Charity Auction, and on Sunday, we welcome our new pupils who are joining in September. I do hope that they have a wonderful day, and that it will be the start of some life-long friendships. We also have our Old Dauntseian Family day on at the same time.

Have a good weekend.

Manor Matters

We welcomed our weary Third Form Manorites back to The Manor last Saturday after their week at Moonrakers – they clearly had a great week and it was lovely to listen to their excited stories about fears that they had conquered and their nights spent in the ‘wilderness’!

Meanwhile, on Saturday the first and second form pupils began their weekend of adventure in Cornwall; after a smooth journey, the pupils were delighted to reach their new homes for the weekend and quickly settled into their caravans. The afternoon saw one group having a surf lesson (in some fairly wild waves!) and two groups cycling the Camel Trail to Padstow. Whilst the surfers then warmed up with hot chocolate, the cyclists enjoyed some delicious ice cream to break their journey. That evening Mr Sampson cooked a great BBQ and we had some super games on the beach. Sunday morning saw everyone up, cooking themselves delicious (mostly) breakfasts and ready for more action – more surf lessons were accompanied by stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking and cycling, and many happy and weary children returned to the campsite on Sunday evening. After a morning exploring Padstow on Monday, we returned to The Manor with many happy memories and quite a lot of sand.

This week has seen World Cup fever hit the House and, whilst many are inside cheering their favourite country on to success, others are busy trying to improve their own skills on our football pitch!

We are all looking forward to welcoming our new first form boarders as they join us for a sleepover on Saturday, and we shall meet our new third form at the New Pupils’ Day on Sunday.
Anne Sampson, House Mistress.
