Head Master's Notices

Last night, Monty Halls entertained a packed Memorial Hall, with his talk on the Galagapos Islands and WWII Great Escapes; it was a wonderful opening to this year’s Mercers’ Lecture series.

Tomorrow sees fixtures against Clayesmore and KES Bath, while Jeanne will be busily preparing for their House Party in the evening.

Looking ahead, I hope that many of you will be able to join us next Friday for our annual Inter-House Cross-Country Competition and Minor Sports Festival. Parents are very welcome to take part and the only rule is that you mustn’t embarrass your children. Sadly, this means that I won’t be running much as though I would like to! The Exeat weekend will give everyone plenty of time to recover and I hope that you enjoy it – there are certainly some very tired pupils around.

Careers

Are you in Year 11 and have a passion for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths)?

Please see the following link for these excellent 3 or 4 day science and engineering courses at excellent universities – very good for allowing you to understand more about what the wide world of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths) involves, and attendance on one is gold dust on a CV or university application. It will also help inform your A Level decision-making. NB They are either girls-only or boys-only.
Past pupils who have enjoyed these courses normally have a strong background in maths, and many are good at one of Physics/Chemistry/DT/Geography/Biology.

Lower School Notices and Reminders

Manor Matters

An opportunity for rest and relaxation was very much enjoyed by all at The Manor last weekend; the Lower School Funfair and BBQ was a huge success on Friday evening and, after matches on Saturday, the Manorites settled down for a film and snacks.

On Sunday many of the pupils in the House went on a trip to Devizes, whilst others busied themselves in the kitchen. The aroma of chocolate chip cookies filled the air, before the cookies filled the tummies of our young boarders!

This week saw a fitness session run by Mr Sampson on Tuesday evening – it was wonderful to see the spirit and determination demonstrated by all those who took part…although there were a few aching muscles on Wednesday morning! We took the whole House to listen to the Monty Halls’ Lecture last night, and the pupils all returned to The Manor full of enthusiasm and inspired by what they had heard.

This weekend we are off to Cribbs Causeway on Sunday; shopping lists have been written and pocket money has been ordered – I am sure that the Manorites will have a super day!
Anne Sampson, House Mistress.
