Head Master's Notices

Last night saw a stunning and truly memorable Remembrance Concert featuring all the School’s major ensembles.  The event was narrated by Ben Sandell, Head of History, and featured readings and poetry too. It was a special evening and the quality of music, variety of pieces and inclusion of so many musicians and singers, delighted the audience.

‘The Virtuous Burglar’, a comedy by the Italian actor-playwright, Dario Fo, will be performed from Monday to Wednesday next week in Annabel’s, and I would like to wish the cast and crew the best of luck.

On the sports front, we take on Kingswood and Bryanston tomorrow.

I wish you all an enjoyable and restful weekend.

Interested in Studying in a University Abroad?
David Hawkins
Thursday 22 November at 13:50 in the William Dauntsey Room

Upper School pupils and parents are all invited to listen to David Hawkins give a presentation and Q&A on studying abroad. Using his wealth of experience, he works with schools and students making university application to the United States, Europe and further afield.  He helps students gain admission to the world’s most selective universities, as well as those looking for the best fit in their university applications. In addition to the name brand universities, David supports students to research the type of university experience they need in order to be successful in the next stage of their education, wherever in the world these universities may be.

Among other topics, he will go through the process of international applications, both in the US and other international universities, explain about different course structures eg US course semesters and major/minor subjects and the admissions tests (SAT), talk about the process of applying for scholarships, and shed some light on the ‘tiers’ of American Universities.

If you are considering studying abroad, even if it’s not for several years, this is strongly recommended as a very good introduction. Please can you let us know if you intend to join us.

Manor Matters

Last weekend the Manorites joined the Upper School boarders, families and visitors for the School Remembrance Service – this was a very moving occasion and it was a beautiful Service.

This week we enjoyed a super treat when all of the children were taken, by the Headmaster and the Senior Management Team, to Pizza Express for supper.  The children all had a wonderful time, as did the Staff who were treated to two hours of silence in the House while the children were out, and a takeaway pizza on their return!  Table tennis is still proving extremely popular as an evening activity, and our Upper 6th Prefects ran a fun game of ‘Stuck in the Mud’ on Wednesday.  In addition, the festive season is underway at The Manor, and we have baked our Christmas Cakes to the sound of Christmas tunes – the House smelt absolutely delicious!  Next week we start the sticky process of applying marzipan and icing to the cakes.

This weekend the children are going to be continuing the culinary theme and will be making their own pizzas for lunch on Sunday – this is always a popular activity and will be followed in the afternoon with a shopping trip to Devizes.
