Head Master's Notices

Many thanks to everyone in our community who made the journey up to Twickenham to support our wonderful 1st XV. It was a great day out and made me enormously proud of the school. The match was competitive, hard fought and played in the best of spirits. Congratulations to Samuel Whitbread Academy on their win and my thanks to our players and coaches for their dedication and hard work this season.

Tonight, sees the final showing of the Lower School play Danny, Champion of the World. The 85 pupils, split into two casts, have worked extremely hard this term to produce a moving, uplifting and funny production.

Tomorrow, we have a full day of fixtures in the diary; the boys’ hockey teams take on Churcher’s College and Monkton Combe School, and our netball squads play Dean Close and Farleigh School. Our footballers take on Bryanston, the basketball team are against Wells Cathedral School, and the rifles team are at Sherborne School.

I hope that you all have an enjoyable weekend.

Mercers' Lectures - Summer Term 2019

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards
Thursday 25 April 2019

Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards is Great Britain’s first Olympic Ski Jumper. He was ranked 55th in the world which qualified him as the only GB applicant for the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. With the UK firmly backing the plasterer from Gloucestershire, Eddie competed in the 70m and 90m jump events, but came last in both events.

Although he did not win an Olympic medal, he became famous for his pure determination and ‘have a go’ attitude.

Eddie is a commentator for programmes such as ITV’s ‘The Jump’ and has taken part in TV shows including Sport Relief and the celebrity diving show ‘Splash’ which he won. He returned to ski jumping in 2015 to raise funds for Ski4Cancer, a charity of which he is patron. A film about his life was released in 2016, staring Taron Egerton as Eddie and Hugh Jackman as his trainer.

Due to very high demand we have now closed the bookings to this lecture. Pupils who would like to go can still book a place by speaking to reception. Many thanks.

Fifth Form Post GCSE Programme

Parents of the Fifth Form are reminded that we are offering a similar selection of Post GCSE opportunities this year. These will take place during the week commencing Monday 24 June which is the week after most of the GCSE examinations finish.

You should have received an email with details but if not you can see the options on the intranet here.

The deadline for applications is 17:00 Thursday 25 April 2019, just after the start of next term. Shortly after which we will let pupils know which programme they will be taking part in. If we receive any applications after that date, we will do our best to accommodate them, but it is unlikely there will be spaces on every programme.

Please select the three in which they would most like to participate, in order of preference, by completing the online form on the School intranet which you can find here.

To complete the form, you will need to log in as usual. If for any reason you cannot do so, you can email your selections to s.moore@dauntseys.org

Many thanks.

Lower School Notices and Reminders

Manor Matters

Many of our lower school boarders enjoyed a ‘Cookery Day’ at The Manor last Sunday and everyone devoured the evening meal that had been made for them; a starter of tortillas and dips was served, followed by chicken fajitas and the evening was rounded off well with some delicious fruit skewers.

On Monday, the House were treated to some great entertainment when we went to watch ‘Danny, Champion of the World’. With one of the Manorites starring as Danny, and many others cast in the play, it was wonderful to see so many of our pupils confidently performing and loving the experience!

This weekend will provide others with the opportunity to entertain as we host our very own ‘Manor’s Got Talent’; the heats have been under way this week and it looks as though the line up on Sunday will provide much variety and some top quality performances.
