The Geography Department is housed on the top floor of the Olive Building. There are four classrooms, a study area with library and an office. A total of six staff teach in the department under the leadership of Head of Geography Mr. Andy Palmer.
Geography is a compulsory subject in the Lower School and an option at GCSE and A Level. For many years the numbers choosing the subject have been high.
Examination results have been impressive with A Level pass rates being 100% for the last 19 years and over 80% of pupils gaining A*/A grades in 11 of the last 17 years. GCSE results have also been excellent with over 75% of pupils gaining A*/A grades in 8 of the last 11 years.
The department has a strong belief in the value of fieldwork and all year groups undertake trips and/or outdoor activities as part of their studies. In addition, there are optional foreign trips, to Barcelona for GCSE pupils and Iceland for those taking A Level. The Geography Society, led by a committee from the Sixth Form, is very active and organises a number of events, including internal and inter-school quizzes, and visiting lecturers.
