Geography is a popular and successful subject at Dauntsey’s, with approximately 60 pupils usually choosing the subject as a GCSE option and around 30 at A level. Public examination results in recent years have been good. Typically, over 70% of pupils gain A*/A/B grades at A level (OCR) and about 70% secure grades 9-7 (A*/A) at GCSE (Edexcel B).
There is a strong fieldwork programme in place across the age range, with day visits to locations such as Bath, the Dorset coast and local rivers and villages, whilst the Lower Sixth have a 3-day residential trip to Exmoor. In addition, there are optional trips to Iceland (Upper Sixth) and Barcelona (Fourth Form) during the holidays.
The Geography Society, with a committee of Sixth Formers leading, is very active and arranges visiting speakers, a Lower School quiz, the local round of the GA WorldWise Quiz and other events.
ICT is of high importance in the subject and the department has touchscreens in all of our classrooms in the recently opened Olive Building, as well as making use of the centralised ICT rooms. ArcGIS and DigiMaps are used widely at all levels.
