Art and Design

Everyone gets the chance to explore their creative potential at Dauntsey's with a thriving Art School housed separately from the main school and a flourishing Design and Technology Department that has embraced the rapid changes in technology the subject has seen in recent years.

A wide ranging art programme is offered to all pupils including: painting and drawing, relief printing, sculpture and ceramics. History of Art is taught as an integral part of the course throughout all year groups and its' influence is reflected in pupils' work at every stage. Art has a high profile within the School and this is reflected in the prominence given to displays of pupils' work.

In the Design and Technology (DT) Department, pupils have the opportunity to experiment with computer-aided design (CAD) software and computer numerically controlled (CNC) manufacturing processes such as milling, turning, routing and laser-cutting. It is a subject where problem solving, planning, development, communication and presentation come together with research and independent thinking to create a strong combination of skills for everyday work and life.

Our pupils learn to examine, process and record information in different ways and form their own visual language – tools that will prove useful in their academic, sporting and commercial lives.

The Art School is housed separately in a spacious building and central to the site is the exhibition area which hosts a wide range of work of artistic merit from both pupils and guest artists. The end of year, summer exhibition showcasing the work of our A Level and GCSE students is the pinnacle event in the Art School calendar.
