The Art School is housed separately to the main school in a spacious building at the bottom of the drive. Central to the site is the exhibition area which hosts a wide range of work of artistic merit from both pupils and guest artists. At the end of year the Summer Exhibition showcases the work of all our A Level and GCSE students and a pinnacle event in the school calendar.
Outside of lesson time, there are numerous opportunities for pupils to enjoy Art & Design, be that in organised clubs or at times when the DT Block and Art School are open for individual work.
A wide ranging art programme is offered to all pupils including: painting and drawing, relief printing, sculpture and ceramics. History of Art is taught as an integral part of the course throughout all year groups and its' influence is reflected in pupils' work at every stage. Art has a high profile within the School and this is reflected in the prominence given to displays of pupils' work.
In the Design and Technology (DT) Department, pupils have the opportunity to experiment with computer-aided design (CAD) software and computer numerically controlled (CNC) manufacturing processes such as milling, turning, routing and laser-cutting. It is a subject where problem solving, planning, development, communication and presentation come together with research and independent thinking to create a strong combination of skills for everyday work and life.
