Sailing Programme 2019

In 2017, Jolie Brise took part in the International Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta – a 10,000 nautical mile transatlantic race visiting Portugal, Bermuda, America, Canada and France.

Pupils have crossed the Atlantic on Jolie Brise previously in 2000 and 2009. In 2017, the Captain, first mate and bosun on the leg from Portugal to Bermuda were all former pupils whose love of sailing was sparked by their experiences on Jolie Brise whilst at Dauntsey's.

In 2018, Jolie Brise competed in the 2018 Tall Ships Races. Four fantastic cities and two challenging races across the North Sea made these races a spectacular event.

The Tall Ships fleet embarked on an invigorating voyage across the North Sea, from Sunderland, UK to Esbjerg, Denmark. The international fleet then undertook a breath-taking cruise-in-company between Denmark and Norway, before racing down to The Netherlands.

Highlights for our pupils were the maritime celebrations at each port. Throughout their arrivals, crowds lined the harbour sides, giving the Tall Ships fleet a much deserved and warm welcome.

Taking part in the end of the Tall Ships Festival in Bergen, then cruising through the astounding Norwegian Fjords, before heading across the North Sea to the remote but beautiful Shetland Islands. Then sailing on to the Faroe Islands, which are famous for their abundance of sub-arctic wildlife, incredible geography and their own unique culture. We will spend some time cruising through the islands and meeting local youth.

Suitable for everyone.

The Highland Fling

Monday 26th August – Thursday 5th September (10 days)
[Faroe Islands to West Coast of Scotland]

Flying to Torshavn, capital of the Faroe Islands, to join Jolie Brise to cruise around this remarkable group of islands, before heading South to the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. Cruising the Outer Hebrides and North West Coast of Scotland, before finishing in Oban. Another remarkable trip, visiting some of the most remote parts of the United Kingdom.

I have sailed on Jolie Brise in Norway, and across the Bay of Biscay to Portugal, but the highlight for me was sailing across the North Atlantic for 19 days. I have seen incredible things that I could not have experienced anywhere else. It has been life-changing.
