Tech Crew visit London

Last weekend, a number our Tech Crew visited London to experience theatre life first-hand.

The day started with a tour around the world's oldest theatre site in continuous use: Theatre Royal Drury Lane.   The tour allowed pupils to see both the public and less-public areas of the theatre, which has only just recently re-opened after an extensive £60 million refurbishment.  They also heard all about the history of the building, including its many fires, ghosts and interesting individuals, all of whom have all made a lasting impact on what the theatre is today.

Following a visit to the London Bridge Experience and lunch by the Thames, the students were then treated to a matinee performance of “Wicked – the musical” at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.  Wicked is currently the fifth longest running musical in London and it certainly kept our pupils engrossed throughout. The highlight for all was without a doubt “Defying Gravity” which concludes Act One.

The trip was an enormous success and we are already looking forward to the next one!  We have a very committed and enthusiastic Tech Crew and it was fantastic to show them how their interests translate in a professional setting.
