Head Master's Notices

I hope that your sons and daughters have enjoyed a good start to the term and have adjusted to the daily routine after the long summer holidays.  Our new pupils seem to have settled quickly and easily and the Lower School Funfair and BBQ this evening is an opportunity to widen friendship groups further.  It is a good opportunity for parents to meet new people too!

This weekend sees fixtures against Churcher’s College, Sherborne Girls and Devizes Hockey Club. I hope to see many of you on the touchlines and do please come and say hello.

Looking to next week, our whole school photograph takes place on Monday morning and the first Mercers’ Lecture is on Thursday 20 September, when Monty Halls will kick off this year’s programme.

I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend.

School Bus Route Temporary Changes

For those pupils on the Marlborough Bus route (as a result of the road works in Devizes)

AM Pick Up.  It is now confirmed that the driver will pick up at all stops in the morning and when they reach West Overton the driver will examine the Sat Nav traffic information system and make a decision on whether to continue through Devizes or go through East Kennett. At this stage we will keep to the published timings and will monitor the arrival times of the bus on a daily basis. Should it be necessary to bring forward the times I will advise you accordingly.

PM Drop Off. The bus will go through Devizes unless there is an incident that would preclude that from happening and you will, of course, be notified as usual by Clarion Call.

Dauntsey's Christian Union

For many years Dauntsey’s has had a Christian Union (called DCU) for pupils to meet and discuss Christianity, to study the Bible and sometimes to also organise events such as the Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse) shoebox present collection.  The group has been student led although I have been available to contribute any support or help as needed.

The Christian Union has always been open to people of faith and also those who wish to enquire and learn more and I am sending this message just to ask for pupils to contact me if they would like to be part of a new Christian Union group to start this year.  DCU has usually been for Upper School pupils but if there is interest from Lower School pupils I am sure we could organise something that would work well for everyone.

If your son or daughter would like to know more please would you encourage them to contact me, or reply to the email I have sent, and I will organise a meeting and hope to make some plans for this year.

With good wishes,
Rev Johnson

Lower School Notices and Reminders

Manor Matters

The start of the academic year has been a hectic and fun-filled one for the Manorites.  With 46 new pupils joining the house, many new friendships are being made, and the children are settling well into their new ‘home’.

Saturday night was ‘Film & Popcorn’ Night, and all of the Manorites relaxed in their PJs and enjoyed a great film; popcorn and snacks were served half way through the film and then everyone settled down for a good sleep in preparation for a busy day on Sunday.

Our Activity Day on Sunday was a great success and the children took part in a Scavenger Hunt and Challenge Games outside, before using their creative skills to decorate mugs and design tie-dye t-shirts.  With breaks for drinks and snacks, and a wonderful BBQ lunch, the day passed very quickly and, following the Church Service and supper, the children (and Tutors!) were definitely ready for bed!

This week the Manorites have been settling into the routine of school and it has been super hearing their excitement at the end of the day when they return with news of their favourite lesson, their new best friend, or a new activity that they have tried out and enjoyed.

We are all looking forward to the Lower School Fun Fair and BBQ this evening and our plans are a little quieter this weekend - the children will have the opportunity to relax at The Manor, and a short shopping trip to Devizes on Sunday will allow them to stock up on essentials (and tuck!).
