Head Master's Notices

This half-term saw our first residential trips since Spring 2020, with 61 Second and Third Formers Dingy Sailing on the Isle of Wight and 53 pupils completing the Trek to the Stones, covering 50km over two days.  My thanks go to all the staff who enabled these events to go ahead, both through behind the scenes planning and on the trips themselves.

For those not on our trips, I do hope that you had restful and restorative week and that all pupils are ready for a busy last few weeks of the academic year.  The Post-GCSE Programme has been running with great success this week and has seen the Fifth Formers involved in a range of different activities, such as an RLSS Lifeguarding Course, Jurassic Adventure, Life Skills on the Jolie Brise and Art Applications.

The Lower Sixth and Third Form have been busy with exams this week and we wish the Fourth Form the best of luck with their exams which commence on Monday.

We have a full weekend of fixtures with tennis against Warminster and cricket against King Edward VI School, Southampton.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend.

Nightingales Children's Project

Each year Dauntsey’s School visit the Nightingales Children’s Project in Romania with a team of Lower Sixth pupils. Unfortunately, we were unable to visit last year, and it looks like it will be the same case this summer, but we are determined to continue to raise as much money as we can for the charity.

We have come together with Nightingales to put together a short charity single to give you some more information about what work the charity do, how Dauntsey’s support them, and how you can help. The film is available to view here.

We hope you enjoy the video and if you would like to make a donation please follow the link below, where 100% of all funds raised will go directly to Nightingales Children’s Project.

Covid-19 Testing at Home

We ask that pupils test twice a week and they (or their parents) report the results of their tests online (www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result) every time they take a test, even if the result was negative or void.

All test results must also be reported to the School as set out below:

  • Pupils should report the results to the School by sending an email to the following address: pupilcovidtesting@dauntseys.wilts.sch.uk
  • If the test is positive – Please type “Positive COVID test” in the email subject line and press send. Please also cc your House Master / Mistress and Mr McFarland on this email.
  • If the test is negative – Please type “Negative COVID test” in the email subject line and press send.
  • If the test if void – Please type “Void COVID test” in the email subject line and press send.

If the test is positive the pupil, and the household they are part of, should self-isolate immediately in line with NHS Test and Trace guidance for 10 days. They should also order a confirmatory PCR test. If this PCR test result is negative, then it overrides the result of the lateral flow test conducted at home. In addition, a negative lateral flow test result does not guarantee that pupils are not carrying the virus and so they should continue to follow social distancing and other measures to reduce transmission.

Manor Matters

Finally, it feels like summer has arrived! It has been so good to see our wonderful grounds being used and enjoyed. The First and Second Form have been enjoying their post exam freedom, while we have been encouraging the Third Form to break up their revision with time outside. Some have needed less encouragement than others!

We have 'Manor Assasins' and Elderflower cordial making this weekend, no doubt alongside some Euro football watching. I know many First and Second Form are going home to prepare for our Dorset trip next weekend, let's hope the weather holds.

The Veg Patch Club was very well attended this week. Pupils met (and named) 'Gerald', the friendly slow worm. The paths are almost complete, strawberries are ripening and weeding tasks are providing great distraction and mindful time. Plans are afoot for a formal opening of the Veg Patch by Mr McFarland soon.

Hope you all have a great weekend

Peter Guille, Housemaster
